Coming Out

The It Gets Better Project’s mission is to communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to make it better for them.

Legal

The ACLU works diligently in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the Constitution’s promise of liberty for everyone in our country. They push for updated state civil-rights laws, ensuring equal access to benefits and safeguarding the rights and safety of the SOGIE community.

Michigan’s statewide LGBTQ political advocacy organization. They connect victims of individual incidents of bias, discrimination, harassment, and violence, including intimate partner violence, to the support, referral, and navigational services they need to achieve justice.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. We never support or oppose any political party or candidate.

Transgender Resources

 

Transgender Michigan provides advocacy, support, and education while serving to create coalitions in Michigan to unify and empower transgender and gender non-conformist communities. They have a help line run by transgender people and a list of local resources set up by counties.  If you need someone to talk to or would like to talk with another transgender person, please call 855-345-TGMI. The National Center for Transgender Equality is the nation’s leading social justice advocacy organization winning life-saving change for transgender people. Great resources for almost anything.

Transgender Law Center works to change law, policy, and attitudes so that all people can live safely, authentically, and free from discrimination regardless of their gender identity or expression. We envision a future where gender self-determination and authentic expression are seen as basic rights and matters of common human dignity.

The Comprehensive Gender Services Program (CGSP) at Michigan Medicine helps transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary adults access and obtain the highest quality gender affirming medical care.

Local Colleges

The Pride Center at Saginaw Valley State University strives to better the lives of individuals who identify as gender/sexual/romantic minorities through education, awareness, advocacy and resources. The focus of the center’s service will be on members of the University community through participation and engagement in the Great Lakes Bay Region. 

Prism Alliance is the staff organization at Delta College that is working toward improving conditions for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and other (LGBT+) gender non-conforming students and employees on campus. UNISON is the student group that will amplify the voice of the LGBT community and their allies at Delta College and will help to create education and awareness for the campus community.
